Quranberry Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 20, 2025
Quranberry (“we”, “us”, or “our”) provides a progressive web application (PWA) and Android app delivered via a Trusted Web Activity (TWA) that helps you read, study, and annotate the Qur’an. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have when you access quranberry.com or the Quranberry Android app.
Quick summary
- You can read and search the Qur’an without signing in; no account is required for core functionality.
- If you sign in with Google, we store your Google user ID and email address to create your account.
- Annotations, bookmarks, notes, and preferences are saved so you can revisit them across devices.
- We do not run ads, use analytics trackers, or sell your information.
- You may export or delete your highlights and notes at any time inside the app, and you can ask us to erase your account completely.
Information we collect
Information you provide
- Google account details. When you choose to sign in with Google, Google shares your Google ID and email address with us. We keep these to create and authenticate your Quranberry account. We do not store your Google password.
- Annotations and study content. Highlights, labels, notes, bookmarks, last location, glossary selections, and other study data you create are stored so you can sync them between devices.
- Display preferences. Settings such as language, script, theme, glossary mode, and morphology toggles are saved to match your reading experience across sessions.
- Support communications. Emails or other messages you send us are retained so we can respond and maintain records of your request.
Information collected automatically
- Session information. When you sign in, we set a secure session cookie (
quranberry.sid) and generate CSRF tokens to keep your account safe. - Service logs. Our servers automatically record basic diagnostic data (for example, IP address, browser type, referrer, and error details) to protect the service and troubleshoot problems.
- Local app data. Your browser stores some preferences and cached files locally (such as language, theme, and offline assets) to make the PWA work faster. This stays on your device unless you remove it.
How we use your information
- Provide the Quranberry reading and study experience you request.
- Sync your highlights, notes, and settings across signed-in devices.
- Maintain the security of your account, including authentication, CSRF protection, and abuse prevention.
- Respond to support requests and improve the app based on reported issues.
- Comply with legal obligations, enforce our Terms of Use, and protect our users and service.
We do not sell, rent, or use your data for advertising or behavioural profiling.
Legal bases (EEA & UK users)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process personal data on these grounds:
- Contract: To provide the Quranberry service when you create an account or request features that require data storage.
- Legitimate interests: To secure our platform, prevent abuse, and understand app performance.
- Consent: Where you choose to sign in with Google or send us optional data such as notes.

Storage, location, and security
- Account and annotation data are stored in encrypted databases hosted by Neon.
- Session cookies are marked HTTP-only, secure, and same-site to reduce interception risk.
- We enforce HTTPS, use CSRF protection, and follow least-privilege access for our administration tools.
- Team access to production systems is restricted to personnel who need it to operate or support the service.
No Internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure, but we work continually to protect your data.
How long we keep data
- Account data (email, Google ID, synced annotations) are kept until you delete them or ask us to close your account.
- Highlights, notes, labels, bookmarks, and settings remain in your account until you remove them from inside the app or request deletion.
- Server logs are kept for a short period (typically up to 30 days) for security and troubleshooting, then automatically deleted.
- Support correspondence is kept for as long as needed to resolve your request and maintain necessary records.
Your choices and rights
- Use Quranberry without an account. Reading, searching, and core tools work without signing in.
- Manage synced data. Signed-in users can view, edit, export, or delete highlights, labels, and notes from the “My Annotations” panel.
- Export your data. Use the in-app export button to download your highlights and notes as a
.qbfile for backup. - Delete your account. Contact us and we will erase your account, annotations, and associated information from our systems (subject to legal obligations).
- Privacy rights (EEA/UK). Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to processing, and to data portability. Contact us to exercise these rights.
- Clear local data. You can remove cached files and local settings from your device through your browser or Android system settings (“Clear storage/data”).
